Project: Handelspand te Huur Genk Inspiration The idea for this project stemmed from the need for a centralized platform that provides comprehensive information about available commercial spaces for rent in Genk. As a growing city with vibrant economic activities, Genk attracts many businesses looking for the perfect location. However, finding suitable commercial spaces can be a daunting task. Our goal was to simplify this process by creating a user-friendly platform that showcases the best available properties.
What We Learned Throughout this project, we gained valuable insights into the real estate market, especially the commercial rental sector in Genk. We learned about the various factors that influence rental prices, the importance of location, and the specific needs of different businesses. Additionally, we improved our technical skills in web development, database management, and user experience design.
How We Built Our Project Technologies Used Languages: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP Frameworks: Bootstrap (for responsive design) Platforms: WordPress (for content management) Cloud Services: AWS (for hosting and database storage) Databases: MySQL APIs: Google Maps API (for location services) Development Process Planning and Research: We started by researching the commercial rental market in Genk and identifying the key features our platform should have. We then created wireframes and mockups to visualize the user interface.
Setting Up the Environment: We set up a development environment using WordPress on AWS, which provided a scalable and reliable platform for our project. We also configured a MySQL database to store property listings and user data.
Design and Development: Using Bootstrap, we designed a responsive and intuitive user interface. We implemented the frontend with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, ensuring a seamless user experience across different devices. For the backend, we used PHP to handle server-side logic and interact with the MySQL database.
Integrating Google Maps API: To enhance the user experience, we integrated the Google Maps API, allowing users to view the exact location of each commercial property and get directions.
Testing and Optimization: We thoroughly tested the platform to identify and fix any bugs. We also optimized the website for speed and performance to ensure a smooth user experience.
Challenges Faced One of the main challenges we faced was ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the property listings.
