Inspiration
During our free time we like to take photos of the wildlife in San Diego. Throughout the years we have noticed how the light pollution in San Diego as well as communities throughout the world has had negative effects on the local ecosystems.
What it does
Our project demonstrates the visualization of the light pollution on Earth going back to 10 million years ago. We also have demonstrations on the negative effect it has had on animals within San Diego.
How we built it
We built this website using React.js, CSS, and HTML.
Challenges we ran into
A large challenge we ran into during this project was how to make the website more interactive for the user. When we initially began the project on Repl.it we discovered that it was difficult to implement the website in a way that would encourage user interaction. We overcame this problem by using React.js instead that allowed us to have a more interactive interface.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
One accomplishment that we are proud of is using React.js. Although this was our first time using React, we were able to harness the capabilities of React and improve our project by using it.
What we learned
Through this project we learned how to work together as a team better and be more efficient. We also learned how to use React.js and its different components and were able to further develop our JavaScript skills.
What's next for Envision Light Pollution
We plan on sending the website to different communities within San Diego as well as heavily impacted communities by Light Pollution like parts of Las Vegas and New York. We also plan on getting more feedback from professionals in this field.
