Inspiration

The Volunteer Pet project started because over 4 Mio people moved out of Ukraine due to the russian invasion to Ukraine. Almost 2 Mio Ukrainians do not currently have access to offline medical care. A high need for psychotherapy and mental help was detected among Ukrainians due to the war in Eastern Europe.

We've created this project together with National Medical University. More than 1500+ doctors raised their hands for free help for the people who need healthcare support nowadays.

What it does

The aim of this project is to help Ukrainian people to get free online healthcare support. Doctor Online is a free service available in Microsoft Teams, Telegram, Meta Messanger and Web interface for an easy booking of required doctors for online consultation.

With more than 500+ doctors on the platform, we have 100+ consultations booked daily.

How we built it

We have built it with Microsoft Bot Framework and Azure Bot Service with Azure Web App service. Bookings are being done with Calendly service with Microsoft Teams Integration for a video conference call.

End-User Interface available in Microsoft Teams, Telegram, Meta Messenger and Web App.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was teaching doctors how to signup on to the platform and configure available time slots for healthcare support. After the project launch, we've got another challenge to teach all doctors to use online video call platforms like Teams or Google meet for the calls with patients. So biggest challenges were related to non-technical volunteer doctors, who sometimes were missing booked online meetings with patients.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We have 500+ doctors from different categories on the platform, that provide online healthcare support for 100+ patients daily!

What we learned

We learned that the end-user interface should be super easy and intuitive because most people are frustrated when it comes to digital products. It is highly important on a scale, so the first 10 doctors will be OK, but when you have 500+ doctors, you will get 50+ problems for sure.

What's next for DoctorOnline 4 Ukrainian refugees healthcare support online

We plan to distribute this project among Ukrainian media to help even more people. We don't plan to convert this project into a payment model as there is no working business model for this app.

Once the war will be finished and most of the people will have the ability to get offline healthcare support, we plan to close this project.
