Inspiration

We were very amused with this year's challenges due to the openness that they had, we ended up deciding to go for a software project due to the fact that we had not a lot of experience in this field and would be a great chance to enhance our skills in this field as well as problem solving in general.

What it does

The application works by offering you routes that other users have made with the common purpose of an interest in common, you can make routes yourself and then people will be able to join you in your adventures, the app has a map visualizer where you can see the routes interactively as well as seeing the people that join every route.

How we built it

We decided to use a node.js framework based on react named Next.js, due to the fact that it's one of the most popular frameworks nowadays, we also used several api's as well as libraries in order to add features such as interactive maps, finding points of interest, responsive ui...

Challenges we ran into.

Since we didn't have much experience in this field, we had a lot of trouble learning the basics and how the system worked, we slowly got more accustomed and made progress quicker, even tough we would sometimes get stuck with functionalities due to the inexperience we had in the world of web development.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are really proud to have made a web app that we think is very functional, aesthetically pleasing, as well as intuitive, we also were able to overcome almost all of the obstacles that we found along the way with relative ease.

What we learned

We learned primarily to use the Next.js framework as well as how it interacts with other systems, APIs, and libraries. We also learned to work as a team without losing productivity due to that.

What's next for WanderWay

We plan on expanding our knowledge on the field as we thought that it was very interesting as well as useful, in the future, we will be able to create a proper full-stack application that implements all the UI elements that we used in this project as well as a solid backend to fit all the needs of the application.
