Inspiration
As teenagers who are constantly digesting information primarily through videos, we realized there isn't any sort of platform that lets fact-check what we view. Technically, a viewer could go on their own device and research what was said in a video... but let's be honest, how many of us actually take the time to fact-check every statement within the video we watch?
We were inspired to create a video credibility tool because we saw a need for it in our own lives. We wanted a way to quickly verify the accuracy of the information presented in videos without having to leave the platform or interrupt our viewing experience.
Furthermore, as some members of our group are health enthusiast, we recognized a harmful trend amongst health-related video content. Several of these types of videos are filled with 'medical' advice from 'practitioners' or 'nutritionists' who lack qualifications and spread information that can lead viewers (especially children) to make misguided health decisions or even put their well-being at risk.
Thus, we felt a responsibility to address this issue and provide a reliable resource for fact-checking health-related claims in videos.
What it does
Our AI video credibility tool generates it's own transcript for the video provided, analyzes the text, identifies what claims were made and debunks any misinformation. With our intuitive design and high functionality, our tool provides a complete picture of the topic at hand!
How we built it
We have our website take in a url input from users and then utilize Assembly AI to generate a transcript for the given video. Next, we utilized Gemini to identify the claims made within the video and validate the information by references external recourses online.
Challenges we ran into
The most challenging part was integrating the front-end and the back-end as most of us were relatively new to web development.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This was everyone's first time creating any sort of project utilizing AI!
What we learned
The most important thing we learned was to be comfortable going back to the drawing board. Our final product is a result of multiple conversations, changes, and drafts but we would not have it any other way!
What's next for Viewrify
To promote even more convenience for users we envision Viewrify may evolve to a chrome extension that enables the user to use the tool on demand without having to provide input. As mentioned there is very minimal practice amongst viewers to fact-check everything they watch so we would like to explore other design choices that will encourage users to use our tool!
