Inspiration
I would say that the idea to model Japanese temple came from my hobby of watching anime, which might sound a little silly. However, I really like the uniqueness of slanted roofs and the aesthetics of Japanese culture. So, in this project I tried to portray authenticity and calmness of the temple village.
What it does
Sacred Haven showcases Japanese village which consists of two buildings and a temple. Alongside the village I carved the path for the river, as well as placed the bridge to cross it. You can also see the little boat that is floating on the water near the deck. For the foliage I used a bunch of different grass types, trees, and flowers. I also placed some smaller rocks near the road to blend it in. As a final touch, I added smaller objects like fruits and candles using Quixelbridge from Unreal Engine.
What I learned
This project is my first big 3D environmental modeling project, so I definitely learned a lot from it. Especially, since I was working with transferring files between 3 different programs: Maya, Substance Painter, and Unreal Engine 5. A lot of things went wrong to be honest, but I got through all the troubles and got to enjoy my final product at the end.
What's next for Sacred Haven
Since I'm majoring in CS, I'm planning on creating a game using my artwork as well as my programming skills. I think it would be very cool to create something from scratch and put my entire soul into it :)
