A brief description of my project in relation to the challenge prompt:

Questy arose from a simple truth: your spark, the essence of what you are, burns brightly ablaze when you share it with others, take daring risks (within reason), learn, and reflect on your adventures! Life is full of ups and downs and not everyone enjoys chronicling feelings that it stirs about in a mundane app. I’m someone who’s always been fidgety and doodled since childhood, traditional journaling and wellness apps disrupt my natural flow. From my experience and studies while brainstorming this project, I realized I wasn’t alone.

Questy is a gamified, wellness-journaling app that enables users to chart their journeys in an engaging, “fantastical” way. It’s about rediscovering joy in everyday moments, a.k.a. your true story, celebrating your uniqueness, and connecting with others…or in other words, embarking on quests towards adventure and kindness!

My main design decisions and how they contribute to my product:

To align with Questy’s fantasy-storytelling theme, a key design decision of mine was to incorporate an avatar selection feature. With this, users are allowed to choose and name their knights or mages, mermaids or royals, for a more immersive narrative experience!

I also introduced a mental health resource center, staffed by a friendly chatbot assistant named the “Wellness Sorcerer”. This feature provides users with an endless “bookshelf” of news articles, daily activities like breathing exercises and meditations, and inspirational quotes, ensuring they have accessible support every step of their journey!

Riding forth alone and writing journal entries is beneficial, but, to amplify Questy’s impact, I sought to foster community and belonging – I implemented a Community space within the app. Here, users can join, create, and invite others to customizable quests that have real-life impacts. For instance, a quest might challenge users to recycle 100 water bottles. Participants can track their individual and group progress within the app, and upon achieving their goal, they receive a special badge to display on their avatar’s map (Huzzah!).

Everything that goes into Questy – from the writing and explorations to the teamwork – contributes to a glorious map. And as the user interacts with Questy, the map fills up with badges from their daily “parchment” journal entries, explorations of mental health resources, and collaborating with others. Questy in its entirety serves as an everlasting, pocket-sized book, that you can sit down, open, and peruse to remember the real, wonderful, heroic…YOU!

(Additional note: I met with Jasmine and Elise to talk about my Figma & prototype links' access, via Discord)
