Inspiration
After the opening ceremonies where we were presented with our themes, we instantly got to brainstorming and finally decided to work with the "Food" theme. Our main inspiration for Nutritionite, are macro-tracking apps like MyFitnessPal, and Lose it!
What it does
Nutritionite is a device that is used solely for tracking your meals, and specific food items. Users can navigate through various categories and select their needed food.
How we built it
Using an ESP32 camera model, we interfaced a main circuit and software system. In the main circuit, we utilized an OLED display with pushbuttons to handle display and user input. Our software was written in the Arduino IDE where we installed a hash-map to store our food data.
Challenges we ran into
Throughout our building time, we faced many overarching challenges. The main area of issue was the configuration of the camera in our ESP32 model. We had trouble importing the CV libraries in order to run CV, after successfully overcoming that challenge, we faced an issue where our web server couldn't send any frames for the open CV to scan. We spent five hours debugging, and in the end we had to suppress our idea and move on to something simpler.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
An accomplishment that we are proud of is our ability to quickly readapt and create a fully-functioning project after facing large adversities.
What we learned
Through our experience at Eureka, we sharpened our skills on circuitry, Arduino interfacing, Ai's, API's and the ability to learn, to adapt quickly, and reach success.
What's next for Nutritionite
Our next steps for Nutritionite include implementing video object detection, voice recognition and other modules to better our project, and ultimately reach new heights.
