Inspiration

Many first-year students, who have recently moved out, struggle in adjusting to living alone due to the academic pressure of university. As a result, there are times when students forget to look after themselves and spiral into an unhealthy routine.

Therefore, we wanted to create a virtual journal. So students have somewhere to reflect on their day and a place to express their thoughts.

What it does

The program, designed to be used by someone at the end of the day, lets users input answers about their day into a short reflection form. It takes the inputted data and stores it in a visually presentable format, which is then backed up to Google Drive for easy accessibility.

How we built it

We divided the program into two main tasks

  1. Data input and validation
  2. Google Drive API handling
The first task was creating a GUI to get information from the user and then perform validation checks on it, the second part was writing data and reading data into/from Google Drive. Whilst also taking the data and displaying it back to the user in a presentable format.

Challenges we ran into

One of our team members got sick and so had to work from home, making it a bit harder to communicate ideas with everyone.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We really enjoyed some finer details of this project like having validation checks or being able to access the datasheet from anywhere using the cloud.

What we learned

The biggest learning curve came in using the GUI in our projects and integrating our stuff with the Google Drive API

What's next for Day2Day

If we had more time we would love to be able to perform statistics on our data collected, having a 7-30 day summary of happiness levels would be a very interesting feature.
