Inspiration

We got inspiration for our project from our Professor's story about suing a startup who unfairly tried to push him out of the company. The startup claimed he never even worked there so that they wouldn't have to pay him salary and stock. He only was successful in his lawsuit because he saved copies of his proof of employment which included his employment letter, employment contract, and pay stubs. A student asked how the legal system knows that the documents submitted aren't fake. The answer was that they don't know if the documents are fake or not. We learned that the legal system deters fraud behavior with harsh penalties like jail time!

What it does

With Secure Employ, nobody ever has to worry about fraud again! Through blockchain technology, our documents are completely verifiable and secure. They will exist forever and are binding agreements between employers and employees that nobody can fake.

Instead of going through a month’s long legal process a judge can simply look at a document and see verifiable proof of whether it’s real or fake.

How we built it

We used the extremely trustworthy and now environmentally friendly (with proof of stake) Ethereum blockchain to create binding agreements between employees and companies. We used Nextjs and Tailwind.css for our user interface.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into the challenge of verifying the signatures between the employer and employee. Our team had blockchain experience but hasn't worked through that specific problem. Through a lot of hard work, we figured out the solution and was able to build in that smart contract functionality.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the website and the smart contracts that we built during this hackathon. And we're also extremely proud of our work ethic. We worked for 12 hours straight during this hackathon to build a minimum viable product that can be presentable. We believe that we've built enough to get our idea out their and well explain it.

What we learned

We learned a lot about blockchain technology during this hackathon. We expanded our knowledge of the web3 space and the legal space.

What's next for Secure Employ

We want to expand to implimenting more legal document smart contracts and polish up our website. We also were thinking about adding more features to the website like specific pages and profile information.
