Inspiration
We chose to target the problem of the financial literacy gap. Previous data and stats show that only 45% of women on average were able to answer personal finance questions correctly.
What it does
To address the problem of the financial literacy gap, we created Ment-her to provide young women who are starting their careers (university students) to connect one on one with industry specialists in finance. Through our app, we hope women will gain the skills necessary to make smart financial choices and get support when needed.
How we built it
We built our project by creating a UI design through FIGMA which shows the app functionalities including a home, dashboard, forum, and chat page. Our Figma design also shows our questionnaire for both mentors and mentees that includes personalized questions to create the best match for both users.
Challenges we ran into
When developing our Figma design, we ran into many challenges such as learning how to use new technical resources. Some specific challenges we ran into with Figma were using buttons, creating flows between pages, and creating a realistic app interface. For the backend and the demo, we initially struggled with the routing on our project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our ability to work as a team, divide and conquer tasks, incorporate feedback from women in tech and our advisors. We are also proud of our ability to quickly brainstorm ideas, implement our project, and create a presentation for our final product.
What we learned
We learned how to efficiently work as a team, and improve our time management skills to complete all parts of the project on time. Working as a team-taught us a lot about delegating work. Being surrounded by many amazing mentors who were able to give us great advice and learning how to take the advice and pivot based on what was very important.
What's next for MENT-HER
ID management: improving security and privacy aspects. Improving Match-Making: Including more questions and specific details. Indirect Feedback: Users would be able to give feedback on how their experience was with certain mentors or mentees Sponsor Events: We would love to sponsor networking events through our forum on the app to get a bigger audience, advertise our app, and grow our network.
