Inspiration

Healthcare systems in Africa face challenges including inadequate health infrastructure, shortage of health care personnel, limited access to essential medicine and low health literacy and poor health seeking behavior. These makes it difficult for individuals and communities to receive quality primary healthcare. The increasing access to affordable digital technology provides an opportunity to address these challenges.

We were largely inspired by the plight of expectant and nursing mothers in getting access to health care. Some of the underlying factors include systemic inequalities, such as poverty, discrimination, and lack of access to education and resources. Other issues include inadequate healthcare infrastructure, limited availability of trained healthcare professionals, and cultural attitudes towards pregnancy and childbirth. Additionally, medical complications and pre-existing health conditions can also contribute to the challenges faced by pregnant women. Addressing these root causes will require a comprehensive approach that involves improving healthcare systems, addressing social and economic inequalities, and promoting education and awareness about maternal health.

With our ability to access affordable digital technology, our generation has been provided an opportunity to address these challenges. We as Team Vincere, having been largely inspired by the plight of women in getting access to health care, have created a platform where expectant and nursing mothers are individually catered to and cared for and they can access health information, products, health personnel and services from our application. Mama Nafuu, is a solution that enables them to have direct access to information, services and personnel in order to reduce infant and maternal mortality.

About Mama Nafuu Application

Mama Nafuu mobile Application is a digital technology innovation that seeks to improve the number of consumers to health information, products and health service.

What it does An expectant mothers can use our application to: schedule her prenatal appointments, log in her daily symptoms, and track her emotional, physical and mental changes throughout the 36 weeks of pregnancy.  She can access articles on pre-natal care and reproductive health care, make track lists for anything, for example meal plans or shopping lists, that help her keep track of things to do during and after pregnancy, directly contact the hospital and her doctor directly in case of an emergency, store her medical records for future reference among many other services provided by our application.

A nursing can schedule baby checkups and get notification on future appointments, like for her baby's vaccinations, log in her and her child’s health statuses daily, weekly or monthly, contact the hospital in case of an emergency, order supplements and vitamin for her and her child from pharmacies, store her child's medical documents digitally on the application for future reference among many other services provided by our application.

Since our application provides so many services on a single platform, our users get to focus on themselves and their babies more.

Why should our App be on the Market?

Currently, there are a couple of applications available and in use that offer services like ours. However, our main difference is that, we offer more services and our platform will be available in vernacular language. They'll also be audio output to cater for people who can't read or are visually impaired. With a few improvements, we also seek to have a custom vision service so that a mother who has a sick child can upload their symptoms such as a skin rash, to give doctors also visuals for better diagnosis, without them needing to go to the hospital.

What's next for Mama Nafuu Application?

If our application gets to the market, we will begin by training people who already have phones how to use our app and also look for investors so we can facilitate the use of Mama Nafuu in rural areas as well, where it could be needed more. We will also collaborate with different hospitals, pharmacies and health facilities to get their services on our application.
