Our Inspiration
Brands and the DOOH-VDOOH market players should create the economic model where everyone benefit from using the aggregation standard of advertising in Metaverses. As soon as the economic incentives are created, all the participants will be able to benefit by shifting to the open model. The Meta Ads mission is to create this Web 3.0 standard. Tech entrepreneurs will be able to develop and test business models for ads aggregation in Metaverses, so they could supplant the best and most cost-effective business models due to the network effect.
Can we imagine today's online world with only one Metaverse? We don't think so. In Meta Ads, we see Metaverses as an interoperable meta space composed of multiple virtual universes where the blockchain technology serves as a coordinating mechanism in this complex, interconnected ecosystem. Meta Ads is the advertising protocol that aggregates the open Metaverse and real world interfaces, allowing them to interact with other systems and products without any access or implementation restrictions.
How It Works
We integrate offline and online ad space on the NEAR blockchain. Advertisers can create NFTs from ad creatives. Ad creatives are displayed at offline and meta ad space in Decentraland. A NEAR Smart contract acts as an agreement between the advertiser and ad space owner. The protocol design offers some distinct advantages to address the issues of outdated advertising networks. While being extremely cost effective, Meta Ads protocol comprises interoperability, immutability and brand reputation protection in the Metaverse space all together.
How We Built It
We integrated web2.0 APIs from offline surface providers and modern web3.0 online metaverse Decentraland. Our metaverse surface is a smart surface with specific integration API to get data from platform.
Our goal was to create the Meta Ads MVP, allowing for a simplified contacting between the ad space owner and the advertiser. We’ve provided an opportunity for the ad space owner to set the website specs and prices. As for the advertiser, they can look for the target audience they are interested in and sign a advertising contract to display their ads in the most convenient manner. We’ve also simplified media plans to the form of time-slots where it is possible to edit the content and the way it is going to be displayed with two types of ad space. Ad space owners, in turn, can place their ad space the way they see fit. While creating the MVP, we’ve solved the main tasks — now it is possible to add an ad space on Near independently, as well as to find an ad place and place an ad display order. We’ve set the payments and content display within the system where the ad space owner can receive payments according to the Smart contract.
Challenges
The most challenging part for us was aggregating the data from offline and online ads together as we look for the full operability and convenience for the user. Our solution is built on interconnection of the Web 3.0 apps and Web 2.0 apps. We’ve ran into some problems with Near authorisation, as the user authorized on Near can't delegate some of his rights in the form of a token. We’ve realised that displayed content should allow for editing because an ad space owner may be responsible for the Metaverse content reshuffle. We’ve also found out that the content display specifics can be different for every ad space owner: at some ad space, one can use the command method, for others one needs to set up streaming endpoints. It is obvious that we cannot solve media distribution issues within dApp as we need critical sections because we cannot store tokens and private data on Near. For that reason, we see our project development in creating a hybrid of an dApp app, conventional nodes and nodes that aim to solve special tasks.
What We’ve Accomplished
We built a well-coordinated team with clear vision for the project development. We’ve managed to transfer advertising business model to the Metaverse space. Our E2E project now supports NFT minting and payments transfer.

What's Next for MetaAds
The Meta Ads team doesn’t think small — we’re planning to be the market leader in VDOOH advertising in Metaverses. We’ve got a plan on how to reach our goals:
After our participation in MetaBUILD 2.0 hackathon in February 2022 we will form the Early Bird community and finish the code. Once the protocol is operational and ready to go we will add more ad space and start working on attracting brands. With full power of community we start findings to involve blockchain advisers and experts to rise the project to the next level. Afterwards, Meta Ads will raise a pre-seed funding to go to the completely new level and be eligible for the Polkadot ecosystem integration by participating in Polkadot Pioneers Prize.
