Inspiration

Wangari Mathai said "You cannot protect the environment unless you empower people, you inform them, and you help them understand that these resources are their own, that they must protect them." At Klimup this is exactly what we do. The biggest facilitator of pollution is human beings and to be able to stop climate change we need to empower them with better methods of combating this self-imposed disease that is climate change.

What it does

Our application is a one-stop shop for everything climate. We provide our users with a platform to post their ideas, receive donations and even possibly catch the eyes of investors. Our events' page allows the user to create and attend climate-based events which are close to them. The educative page gives our users access to fun, curated modules, videos, articles and interesting reads from our book recommendations. Finally, the user can track all their activities in the user page, find recycling points and check out if the weather conditions in their location is due to climate change. To incentives positive action towards climate change, we reward users with 'Klimapoints based on their activity in our application'

How we built it

The front end was built using React.js The backend was built using Node.js The UI was designed using Figma

Challenges we ran into

At some point during the competition, we lost one of our team members (who was a frontend developer) and that really set us back. We also had an issue creating pipelines in azure DevOps, but that was later sorted out. The project required consistent commitment, dedication and time which was hard to allocate since we had CATS and exams.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Making a solution that is fun and that we are proud of. Designing a killer UI Our collaboration as a team

What we learned

At the start of the competition most of us did not know a lot about Microsoft services but through the help of the learn modules we were able to become proficient in them. We have also learned the importance of proper planning and collaboration in order to achieve desired results.

What's next for Klimup

After GOL we want to release our solution to the market, replan and restructure using customer feedback so as to give our users the best possible experience
