Inspiration
Our inspiration for Garden Angel stemmed from observing the struggles many face in maintaining their gardens due to busy schedules and lack of expertise. We wanted to make gardening more accessible and sustainable, harnessing technology to foster a greener environment.
What it does
Garden Angel automates the care of garden plants by monitoring soil moisture, humidity, and temperature to ensure optimal growing conditions. It adjusts water usage and alerts users about necessary interventions, making garden management effortless.
How we built it
We built Garden Angel using an Arduino programmed in C++ to control various environmental sensors. The front end was developed with React and JavaScript, providing a real-time user interface, while the backend, constructed with Node.js and Express.js, manages data processing and storage.
Challenges we ran into
One of the primary challenges was integrating the hardware and software components seamlessly. Ensuring reliable sensor data collection and implementing real-time data updates in the user interface also posed significant hurdles.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating a fully functional prototype that effectively automates garden maintenance. Our system's ability to conserve water and improve plant health while being user-friendly stands out as a major accomplishment.
What we learned
Throughout this project, we learned about the intricacies of IoT device integration, the importance of user interface design, and the complexities involved in sensor-based environmental monitoring. We also gained insight into effective resource management and sustainability practices.
What's next for Garden Angel
Looking ahead, we plan to enhance Garden Angel by incorporating more advanced AI algorithms to predict plant needs more accurately and adjusting care schedules autonomously. We also aim to expand our system to support a wider variety of plants and explore commercial applications for larger scale operations.
