Inspiration
The inspiration for FoodChain came from our collective passion for food and a desire to support local culinary talent while promoting healthier eating options. We noticed a disconnect between consumers and local food providers, as well as a growing interest in culinary education and exploration. This led us to envision a platform that not only connects users with diverse dining options but also empowers them to learn new culinary skills and discover unique food experiences.
What it does
FoodChain is a centralized platform that connects users with local restaurants, private chefs, and virtual kitchens. Users can explore a wide range of dining options, from vegetarian meals to healthy full-day packages, and even participate in virtual cooking classes and recipe sharing. The platform aims to promote healthier eating choices, support local businesses, and foster a sense of community around food.
How we built it
We used JAVA Spring Boot Framework with 3 layer architecture and used Java as our programming language and MySQL as the database. Intellij helped us as we were able to use the some of its inbuilt functions like JPA Repository. It allowed us to create it as a Maven Project.
Challenges we ran into
we encountared many challenges throguhout our development of FoodChain. At first we encountred a few errors with the database and user logins but soon got it fixed. We then faced many problems intergrating our AI chatbot on the user homescreen messing up other HTML elements and had to create a whole new bot.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have created a platform that not only promotes healthier eating choices and supports local businesses but also empowers users to expand their culinary horizons and connect with like-minded food enthusiasts. Our team's dedication and perseverance in overcoming technical challenges and building meaningful partnerships have been key accomplishments in bringing FoodChain to life.
What we learned
Through the process of building FoodChain, we learned valuable lessons about idea generation, creativity, and the importance of collaboration with group members. We expanded our knowledge of programming languages and the creation of both frontend and backend software for a website. Overall, the experience has been both rewarding and enlightening, and we look forward to applying these learnings to future projects.
What's next for FoodChain
In the future, we envision expanding FoodChain's reach to new cities and regions, as well as further enhancing the platform with additional features and functionalities. Next, we will add a delivery feature. with regards to this, we will create a different login for the delivery person and connect him with the user and the kitchen or restaurants.
