Inspiration
We were inspired by the power of social media engagement and friendly competition. Social media challenges often go viral, uniting people around a common goal. We saw this same potential for climate action. While climate change isn't about competition, it is about pushing each other forward. EcoAlly leverages this spirit of friendly competition to motivate communities to tackle environmental challenges. Instead of focusing solely on international efforts, we believe recognition for climate action should be localized. Highlighting local success stories fosters a sense of pride and inspires community spirit. This empowers citizens to become active participants in building a sustainable future.
Learning and Development
Our incredible mentor, Lisa, played a pivotal role in shaping EcoAlly. Her expertise in environmental data visualization helped us design the detailed dashboard that empowers communities to understand their environmental footprint. Lisa's personal experiences living in Alberta provided valuable insights and ensured our platform caters to diverse needs.
Building EcoAlly
EcoAlly is a mobile application built through coding. We focused on creating a user-friendly and accessible platform for a broad audience.
Challenges Faced and Adaptation
Initially, we envisioned a system that highlighted municipalities with existing clean energy infrastructure. However, we recognized the importance of long-term growth, particularly in rural areas of British Columbia. We shifted our focus to incentivize sustainable practices in these regions, promoting long-term, holistic environmental action.
The Road Ahead
We believe EcoAlly has the potential to be a powerful tool for positive change. By fostering a spirit of collaboration and local accountability, EcoAlly can empower communities to work together towards a greener future.
