Inspiration
We were inspired by the concept of how skin health is often overlooked compared to other areas of health. We recognized a gap in how society perceives and prioritizes skin health, and we wanted to create a platform that highlights its importance through technology.
What it does
The primary purpose of DermaTech is to revolutionize the way people approach skin health by providing a platform that combines advanced AI technology with empathetic support. Users can create an account with us or log in with an existing account. At the signup, we ask they provide their Clinician's name and contact details in case they need to contact them faster. They then can access their Clinician Information on their profile, as well as their "Health Report" which logs the questionnaires they've done. Through the utilization of the OpenAI API, DermaTech features an AI assistant when you fill out the questions of the questionnaire we offer. This AI assistant serves as a supportive guide, offering suggestions of what their symptoms could be while being calm and collected to ensure there's less added stress to the user.
How we built it
Our team used a combination of technologies including Visual Studio Code (VSCode), Flask, Python, CSS, and the OpenAI API. Leveraging these tools, we aimed to create a user-friendly platform that utilizes AI to provide valuable insights and resources for improving skin health.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges we faced was deciding on the direction of our project, whether to focus on Biotech or Education. Ultimately, we chose the Biotech route, despite being unfamiliar with the field, as we were drawn to the challenge of exploring new territory and making a meaningful impact in an area outside our expertise.

We're proud of the dedication of our team throughout the development process. Despite facing various challenges and obstacles, we remained committed to our vision and worked tirelessly, often staying up for long hours.
What we learned
Throughout the development of DermaTech, we gained valuable insights into the implementation of AI in everyday applications and deepened our understanding of medical knowledge related to skin health. Exploring these intersections broadened our perspectives and enriched our project development process.
What's next for DermaTech
We hope to provide enhanced AI Capabilities that can one day have an accuracy level of 90-95% for scanning and identifying. This could involve further training the AI model on a wider range of skin health topics and refining its ability to understand and respond to user queries and concerns because we understand that not everyone experiences the same symptoms.
