Inspiration

Approximately 43.8 million adults experience mental health issues, with more than fifty percent struggling to identify them. One of the main causes of this problem is our society's lack of understanding when it comes to mental health. Additionally, some individuals strive to live in their best mental state possible but don't know where to begin. The inspiration for our app is to assist those struggling with mental health issues or who want to improve their mental well-being.

What it does

Our app offers a multitude of features. Two of the most important focuses on depression and anxiety, the two most common mental health illnesses. We provide background information about these topics and then prompt the user to fill out a form if they suspect they may be experiencing symptoms. Based on their answers, the app provides personalized recommendations for managing their condition.

Another feature allows users to set goals or choose from pre-made goals tailored to improving mental health. We also recommend hobbies based on their preferences to enhance mental well-being. Additionally, users can track their sleep patterns and match with a therapist. Our shop offers products proven to enhance mental health.

How we built it

One of the main challenges was designing an intuitive layout for the website to enhance user experience. The platform we built it on was JotForm

Challenges we ran into

We first tried to develop our application using Java, but we faced performance problems. The transition from Java to another platform was difficult, and we encountered obstacles while optimizing the app's performance. Additionally, designing an effective layout for the website proved to be a challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Since its inception almost a year ago, our project has garnered 200 downloads, and I had the opportunity to present it at my school's STEM event.

What we learned

We gained insights into prevalent mental health issues in society, learned how to build an app using JOTFORM, and discovered effective strategies for addressing mental health challenges.

What's next for Cured

We plan to integrate a community interface where users can connect with individuals in their community for support sessions. Additionally, we aim to incorporate data from users' other apps, such as the "Health" app on Apple devices, to provide more personalized recommendations.
