Inspiration
This game was inspired by mystery games, specifically Sherlock Holmes. We pay homage to the series by using the iconic taxi used by the protagonist in the series.
What it does
Countdown Conundrum tests your skill and speed through difficult timed trials and missions, with the city's fate at risk. The first mission is to follow the trail of clues throughout the city that teleports you to missions. The second mission is go through a field of lasers and reach the portal to the next level: The AMazeing Maze of Maize. Once you complete this labyrinth you teleport to the final level: Our entire soundtrack is completely original, however, we did use autotune. The Final Steps. Here, you must make it to the bomb in time to defuse it and save the city!
How we built it
We used unity, specifically the language C#, and we also used Blender.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge we ran into is not being able to complete everything planned out. We initially had a bigger vision for the game, but found ourselves racing against time to get the best product, which also meant cutting off some extra features. Also, we originally created first-person shooter and sniper missions, but were cut out due to us feeling that the nature of these missions could potentially be too violent for the school environment that the hackathon takes place in. This especially led us to have even less content that we planned, as we had to cut out content we spent hours working on during the limited time of the hackathon.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
A majority of the assets were completely created by us, including the soundtrack, linked below. Additionally, we are extremely proud of the fact that we were able to produce a vast, open-world city, which was something we weren't expecting to complete. Also, two out of the three members on our team, are complete rookies to Unity, and we were still able to complete a project that we consider to be relatively advanced. All three of us also grew in terms of having our first final product, something we weren't able to achieve in the previous hackathons. We are extremely proud that all of our hard work paid off.
What we learned
We learned that sometimes you don't get to achieve everything on your agenda. Sometimes you have to make the difficult decision of choosing between amazing ideas.
What's next for Countdown Conundrum
The next thing would be to refine the graphics. Additionally, we would like to add a traffic control system and NPCs roaming through the city.
