💡 Inspiration

As 4 individuals coming from different backgrounds, we have all experienced the terrible impact of plastic in our environments. From our research, we found out that plastic makes up 3% of the earth's pollution, which may not seem significant. However, plastics take a significant time to breakdown, ranging from 20 to a whopping 500 years, depending on the type of plastic. We decided to create Beezy to encourage users to actively participate in the green initiative by implementing a reward system that rewards them with prizes depending on what company's green initiative they are participating in. In our minds, we want users to know that they have the power to create and be a part of a change for the greater good of our beautiful planet Earth. Our mascot is Buzzie the Bee as bees play a significant role in our environment. We represent our users like bees in helping the environment as they utilize Beezy.

💥 What it does

Beezy is a third party app where users can enjoy gamified challenges to log their eco-friendly activities in order to obtain rewards. With collaborations from eco-friendly companies (including Starbucks, McDonald's, Walmart, Trader Joe's, and Coca-Cola), Beezy will be able to accomplish it's mission and vision:

Mission: To show the world that everyone has the power to make a difference by raising awareness, driving change, and inspiring action.

Vision: We envision a world where plastic waste is a thing of the past and where every individual is empowered to take meaningful action for the good of our planet. Through innovation, education, and collective action, we're leading the charge against the outgrowing population of plastic waste, inspiring a global movement towards a cleaner, greener future.

🛠️ How we built it

We mainly used Figma to design and build Beezy. Along with some designs that were hand-drawn in Procreate. We also utilized Canva to build our powerpoint presentation.

🧗‍♀️ Challenges we ran into

Brainstorming the idea was the biggest challenge as we wanted to make the most interesting, unique, and beneficial application for the users, and to set it apart from other carbon footprint tracker apps. We had to consider many factors to make the application be attractive to users. Moreover, as this is our first time working together, we needed to spend time with each other to figure out the most effective way to work together. By communicating our thoughts often, we successfully built teamwork and collaboration that led us to build Beezy to the best of our abilities.

🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of

Being able to design an application with a first-timer group can be very challenging. Nonetheless, this is something that we are extremely proud of. Our result was amazing and we could not have done it without each other.

📚 What we learned

We learned that UI/UX designing definitely takes a lot of effort brainstorming and implementing because it can be a challenge to turn an idea into a design that is easy to understand. It can also get quite challenging when designing the application in a way that is unique yet intuitive to our users. However, as we backed each other up, we finished this project successfully. We also learned to focus on one goal within a 24 hour span.

💭 What's next for Beezy

Our plan for Beezy is to develop it into a responsive application by utilizing React.js and Bootstrap. We are really excited to turn Beezy into a developing application that will make a global impact. Collaborate and partner with eco-friendly companies such as Starbucks, McDonald's, Trader Joe's, Walmart and Coca-Cola).
